Girl's Camp Cooking

Last week I spent Monday morning - Friday evening at Camp Nauvoo as a camp cook for 130 young women and about 25 leaders. We had a crew of 4 - 6 cooks throughout the week. Four of us from our ward were there the entire time and then two others came during part of the time. It was really fun to work together, but it is hard work and long hours. We were lucky if we got a 1 or 2 hour break each day. One day we had no break. The girls loved the meals so we considered it a success.

Judy Sisco and I shared a tent for the week. Our stake men went up early and set up the tents. Scott wanted to be sure I was comfortable so we ordered a great 40" x 86" cot that was large enough to fit a twin size blow up mattress. It was very comfy, but we got cold the first night so Scott brought us up more blankets the second night. Luckily, camp is only 45 minutes from our home. We organized our tent with a night stand and everything, but on Thursday, I was wondering why out tent looked so long on the outside, but just fit our cots on the inside. To our surprise, there was a second bedroom on the back of the tent and we could have spread out as they opened up to be one large area. We had no idea. Next year we are going to put our cots and stuff in the back half and make the front a sitting room.
